There comes a point in our life when we wonder, ‘What is my purpose, Why am I here on this Earth’? You may have already reached that point, or may do so in the near future. Whether you have reached that point or not, it is important for us to know our purpose and to fulfil it! So, in this blog post we are going to look at how we can identify our purpose, and how to focus on fulfilling our purpose through the Grace of God.
Go back to the Source…
First of all, in order to identify your purpose, you must have knowledge of the source of your purpose and the giver of your purpose. If someone wants to know the purpose of an invention, they will go to the inventor. You are unique and God has given you a unique purpose, and that is what makes you different. Pray that God will reveal to you your purpose and help you to fulfil it. Very often we allow others to dictate our purpose; whether it be our family, our friends or even the battles we face. Do not live the purpose of someone else as you have not been appointed or anointed for that purpose. Allow God to be your GPS and lead you into and through your purpose, which you have been ordained for. Sometimes we waste too much time focusing on others that we lose sight of our own purpose. If you are truly willing to identify your purpose, seek God and when he reveals it to you, continue to seek Him. Remember it all starts with prayer!
You may be wondering, how is God going to reveal to me my purpose? God can reveal this to us through a number of ways. It could be through our dreams, our passions, our God-given talents or our circumstances, but the most important thing is to build a relationship with God and to study His Word. Look for the little signposts every step of the way!
Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you… (Jeremiah 1:5)
YOLO… don’t just live…
I’m sure we all remember the phase of everyone screaming YOLO, after Drake’s song was released. To be honest, I don’t really like using this acronym but I believe we can use it to encourage us to Do Better Everyday. The phrase ‘You only live once‘ has very often been used to encourage people to just live life, in fact to live life recklessly. But today I want to encourage you to live right and in accordance to your purpose because you only live once. Do not just live for the sake of living, live your life on purpose in accordance to your purpose! Its a shame that sometimes it takes a celebrity dying for us to take a moment to think about our life and how we can better our life so that we can leave a legacy behind. People usually associate success with money, expensive cars, a big house, but true success is fulfilling the purpose of God in your life as when you die you cannot take any of these things with you, but what you can do is leave behind a legacy.
Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Be ye not unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is (Ephesians 5:16-17)
Life is short, so make a Difference…
Wherever you are today in life you should aim to make a difference. Whether in your family, your place of education, your place of work or in your church, or just in your day-to-day life. This month we remember black history and the legacy people like Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks left behind. The great names mentioned have done their part and have made an impact. What impact are you making in your life today & towards the people in your life? What impact will you make tomorrow? What impact will you leave when it is time for you to leave this earth? Ask yourself, is it Positive or Negative?
Now it is not a matter of 'forcing' things but I do believe we are all placed in this world for a specific purpose and through our purpose we should be making a positive impact. The real beauty is when we come together with our unique qualities and our different purposes, for a Greater Purpose. Very often we believe our Purpose is for us alone, but as a Christian I am learning through my circumstances that my purpose is to be used to impact others and to bring glory to the name of God. It’s not really about me at all!
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them (Ephesians 2:10)
TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
Warning: Once you make a decision to follow your purpose, there are going to be many things which are going to try to distract you from that purpose, but remember that all things work together for good to them that Love God, to them who are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28).
Never give up on your purpose and never give up on yourself. If you wait on the approval of others you will wait a very long time. Your main concern should be pleasing the Source of your purpose through Fulfilment.
