Is it not exciting when you start a new adventure?
It may be a new job/business, a new relationship, or a decision to become more healthy. We have all been there! It may even be a decision to become more committed in your relationship with God. Whatever it may be, one thing I do know is that fear usually holds people back from embarking on new beginnings. BUT… God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind (1 Timothy 1:7).
How often do you hear people say ‘New year, New me’? I don’t know about you, but I hear it at the start of every year. Not that there is anything wrong with setting goals for the new year but why wait? Did you know that you do not have to wait for a new year to set new goals, achieve new things. Everyday can be a new start!
Put God first
I strongly believe that God should be put first in everything that we do. In fact, we should consult God before embarking on new beginnings to know that whatever we are about to start is in accordance with His will. Having God at the forefront from the beginning will make things easier throughout the process. That does not mean we would not face difficult situations, but what better feeling than knowing that God is in control?
Do not despise small beginnings
How many of you have been in the position where you are so excited over a fresh start, but when things are not going according to plan you start to become demotivated? Many of us easily give up on our plans because it is not as big as we imagined however, I want to encourage you today not to despise small beginnings. In Zechariah 4:10 we are told ‘do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin.’ No matter how hard things may be at the beginning, I encourage you to keep pressing on…
Don’t give up
That nicely leads us on to the point of not giving up! As I highlighted at the beginning, many people easily give up on new beginnings due to fear. I once read a quote somewhere which stated, ‘Don’t give up; the beginning is always the hardest.’ Some people give up so quick on their purpose because the beginning times are hard. ‘But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded’ (2 Chronicles 15:7).
One thing that I constantly heard growing up was ‘good things don’t come easy.’ As I have grown older by the grace of God, I have realised how true this saying is! I look back now and realise that where I am today required dedication, commitment and faith in God. It is not easy, but will be worth it!
Let us look at the analogy of the eagle. An eagle is very often described as strong, courageous and fearless even during times of struggle. We can take some of these characteristics of the eagle and apply it to our own lives. If we are able to be courageous and fearless like the eagle, this can help us get through some of the early difficulties which may be faced when new beginnings arise.
Don’t look back at past failures
Another thing which stops people from embarking on new beginnings is their constant desire to look back at the past. I believe that looking back is the first step of going back. So many people believe that because they failed in the past, they will fail again. But thank God that is not the case, phew! We hear of so many inspirational people who constantly failed but each time they never gave up. Whatever situation you find yourself in today, do not look back, but focus ahead.
Final word of encouragement…😊
If things do not work out the way you have planned, do not lose courage. God has something better in plan for you.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not unto your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths (Proverbs 3:5-6)
I hope you have been blessed by this first post. Remember, no matter what you have gone through or what you are going through currently, it is never too late to start again!!! Trust in the Lord.
God bless 🤗
