Have you ever gone through a tough period in life and you thought that you would never make it through? But, you made it through anyway! I know I definitely have. During these tough seasons we usually turn to something or someone to help suppress the pain, take away the loneliness or take our focus away from our problems. For some, they run to their family, some to drugs or alcohol and others they just give up, going into depression and losing the urge to continue living. I will not pretend that it is easy to get through these periods, but I want to encourage those who may currently be going through a tough period, or who may be recovering from a season of constant trials. Don’t give up, keep striving forward and in due time you will come out on the other side.
The Storm can make or break you..
Yes, the storm can make or break you! I know it’s hard to believe, but your problems don’t have to break you, in fact they can help you become a better person. Sounds crazy right? But did you know that when you are faced with a storm this is an opportunity to really work on your patience, your faith, in fact on building character. I believe that through everything we face there is always something to learn, even if it is how to be more patient, loving or to increase our faith. So ask yourself, what do I need to learn during this season?
It’s only for a season…
Ecclesiastes 3:1 To everything there is a season.!
Remember that whatever you may currently be going through is only for a season, it won’t last forever. The same way there is a period of cold and gloominess in winter, there is also a period of brightness and sun in the summer. That pain, the sorrow, the bitterness, the loneliness, the tears will come to an end, just keep believing!
God is your strength…
You may not want to hear this, but during the tough times, God is your greatest strength. At the beginning of this blog post I mentioned that when people are going through tough seasons they turn to something or someone. No matter what you are going through, it is never too late to turn to God for His strength. In the past, I used to think that I was Superwoman, strong in my own ability until I was broken down to the point that I realised I was so weak. I realised that I needed to fully rely on the strength of God. So, instead of trying to be Superman or Superwoman in whatever you may be going through, rely on God’s strength to get you through this season. After all, His strength is made perfect in your weakness. Pray, search the Bible for words of encouragement, listen to uplifting music or videos if you need to and keep trusting God.
Do Not Give Up…
You’re probably thinking, ‘well that’s easy for you to say, you don’t even know what I’m going through’! Yes, You’re right, I probably don’t. But the best piece of encouragement I can give you is to keep on going. Don’t give up! Yes, it’s not easy. I have been through some storms myself and whenever I thought that it was over another one came, and then another and I would ask myself ‘is this ever going to be over?‘. But, I never gave up and here I am today to encourage you. So yes don’t give up, no matter how hard it may get, or you may miss out on what is on the other side of the storm. Pray, Pray, Pray as much as you need to. Even if it does not look like things are getting better just keep praying, trust me things will get better and so will you! (Philippians 4:6).
Then Jesus got into the boat and started across the lake with His disciples. Suddenly a fierce wind struck the lake, with waves breaking into the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke him up, shouting, "Lord, save us! We're going to drown! Jesus responded, "why are you afraid? You have so little faith!" Then He got up and rebuked the wind and waves, and suddenly there was a great calm.
Sometimes it may seem like Jesus is sleeping during your storm but don't be afraid, have faith for He will surely calm your storm.
Words of encouragement to help you through the tough seasons…
Ask for help and don’t be afraid to receive help from those close to you - surround yourself with people that will lift you up during this season and not drag you down
Cry all you need to, as they say this can be good therapy. I also believe our tears water the seeds in our life to produce good fruit that we can reap once we get to the other side of the storm
Think positive thoughts, no matter how hard this may be - every time a negative thought comes fight it with a positive thought
Smile and laugh as often as you can
Pray, Trust God, and have Faith
Final Word of Encouragement…
No matter what you may be going through or what you may face in the future, remember that you got through it the last time and you will get through it again. What you are going through has a purpose and all things will surely work out for good. You may be thinking that because you are going through this tough period God does not love you. But He does, nothing can stop Him from loving you. It even says it in His word (Romans 8:38-39). So, put away all of those things that you rely on during your tough seasons. Say goodbye to depression, anxiety and worry and rely on God! Don’t focus on the storm, focus on Jesus in the storm. For you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you (Philippians 4:19).
God bless <3
